Curator Martin Schibli

Martin Schibli is a Swedish/Swiss curator, and one of the most acknowledged curators based in Sweden, with an extensive international network. He is also teaching at art schools and universities.


Since year 2000, Schibli has curated over hundred exhibitions in 14 countries. During the years 2015-2017 he was the artistic director for Växjö konsthall, Sweden, with solo and group exhibition with Swedish and International artists, like Jiri Kovanda, Ewa Partum, Juan Castillo, Jonathan Meese, Endre Tot, Andrei Monatyrsky, Jonas Lund, Agata Nowosielska, Conny Blom, André Bötzer and Andre Talborn and others. Between 2006 – 2102, as the director of exhibitions, he transformed the Kalmar konstmuseum, Sweden, to be one of the top institutions in Sweden at the time, with reputation outside the boarders of Sweden. The Museum took part in several international collaborations with other institutions around Europe. The exhibitions at the museum includes solo exhibitions with i.e. Artur Zmijewski, Swetlana Heger, Guy Ben-Ner, Marina Naprushkina and Georg Baselitz, He initiated and curated group exhibitions as Friction and Conflict, The social critique 1993 – 2005, Swedish conceptual Art, The order of things, etc.


Other institutions he have been collaborating with are i.e. at Kunsthalle Rostock, City Gallery Gdansk, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, NCCA URAL, Shiryaevo Biennale, Berlin biennale in 2012, Moderna Museet, Stockholm, SIART – Bolivia among others. Schibli, together with Iwona Bigos, also initiator and curator of the travelling exhibition War aijentlich ain scheenes Schiff about the world largest see catastrophe Wilhelm Gustloff. 


Besides curating, Schibli also work continuously with lectures at universities and art schools, i.e. Linnaeus University, Umeå Art Academy, Ölands Art School and Royal Art Academy. He has also given lectures in Poland, Switzerland, Lithuania and Russia.


During the last decade Schibli have also organized international conferences on subject like public art and contemporary art, not only in Sweden but also in Russia, Moldavia and Belarus.


In Sweden Schibli is also known for the book How to become a contemporary artist in three days (2005, together with Lars Vilks), an introduction on how to survive in the art world, the book also gives a description on the connections between theory and the practise of contemporary art. The book is used at several art academies and universities in Scandinavia. Schibli also writes continuously for different art magazines and catalogues on artist.

Martin Schibli has initiated and curated over hundred twenty exhibitions in 14 countries in different contexts. He is specialized in art from the sixties and beyond. Topics are often linked to art in relation to society, emerging artists, conceptual art, eastern European art, contemporary art on historical contexts...

Martin Schibli is an experienced lecturer since mid 90:ties. He gives public lectures and also teach extensively the last years at Art Schools and Universities. He teaches in both in theoretical courses and in workshops. He is also experienced in initiating and arranging conferences. Please contact us for further information.

Siri Kollandsrud is a Norwegian artist, educated in Berlin, and currently resides in Copenhagen. She has received numerous work and travel grants and exhibited in several countries, but this is the first time she exhibiting in Sweden. At Galleri Skelderhus, the artist shows paintings from recent years.
